Intellectual Property
At miRagen, we have a substantial intellectual property portfolio built upon strong data that provide the basis for our claims and allowances.
Through several key partnerships, including with the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center, the University of Colorado, the University of North Carolina, and t2Cure, we add greater breadth amd depth to our intellectual (IP) portfolio.
miRagen is the owner/exclusive licensee of more than 100 patent applications, and these well-enabled applications include specific cardiovascular and muscle miRNAs, uses in several therapeutic indications, and chemistries for therapeutic oligonucleotides.
In June 2011, miRagen announced that is has been issued a notice of allowance by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a patent titled "Micro-RNAs that Modulate Smooth Muscle Proliferation and Differentiation and Uses Thereof." The patent covers methods of use in modulating miR-143, a microRNA demonstrated by scientists at miRagen and UT Southwestern Medical Center to play a critical role in controlling smooth muscle cells at the site of vascular injury, which occurs in a variety of vascular disease states.
miRagen's strength rests in its scientific expertise and its intensive focus on cardiovascular and muscle disease.
miRagen's scientific leadership--including its founders, leadership team and scientific advisory board--provides collective expertise in cardiovascular and muscle disease that is unparalleled in the industry, and further sets miRagen apart in the microRNA field. No other company is as focused in its approach to developing microRNA-based therapeutics. This also is reflected in the company's IP position, with applications that are well-enabled and focused on specific cardiovascular and muscle miRNAs, uses in several therapeutic applications, and chemistries for therapeutic oligonucleotides.
